Section 10: Eminent Warden
The Eminent Warden protects the security and tradition of our Ritual and Chapter Meetings. The Eminent Warden must be willing to stand in the face of adversity and ensure the structure of the brotherhood is stable.
The Eminent Warden will:
Keep order and proper decorum in the chapter meetings; he will warn and fine those who speak out of turn and cause disturbances.
Keep order and proper decorum throughout the chapter house at all times and specifically during social functions.
Escort guest speakers for chapter meetings to the Chapter Room.
Chair the Standards Committee, though he has no vote.
Not commit the chapter to any contract, whether written or verbal or otherwise, nor has any spending authority whatsoever.
Perform all duties set forth in the National Laws, Title VII, Article 53, Section G.
Ensure that all members are involved in at least one additional campus or community organization, as stated in the requirements for membership by Sigma Alpha Epsilon National Laws.
Identify the acceptable campus or community organizations for approval, and propose this list to the Executive Committee, which will seek the approval of the Chapter Advisor. The Chapter Advisor has the authority to veto approval of any organization on the list.
Notify any member of non-compliance within thirty (30) days from the start of the semester. At the thirty (30) day mark, the Eminent Warden should fine said member $100. This fine can be appealed to and suspended by the Finance Committee within fifteen (15) days if said member joins an approved organization.
The Eminent Warden must ensure that no member is allowed to avoid the above duty by being given special privilege or taking advantage of a brother’s friendship and has the authority to determine if any member is simply in “wink-wink” compliance. The Eminent Warden should propose to the Executive Committee said member for Suspension. The Executive Committee can suspend said member by a simple majority vote of members present.
The Eminent Warden must be responsible for tracking and ensuring that all members complete a minimum of 20 service hours per academic year (10 per semester minimum).
The ten (10) service hours each semester must be completed by the last Monday in November and the last Monday of April.
On the second Monday in October and the second Monday in April, At the fifty (50) day mark, the Eminent Warden will notify all members of their progress and identify those that have completed zero (0) service hours to the Eminent Archon.
The day after the last Monday in November and April, members who have not completed their service house will be fined $100 each. This fine can be appealed to the Finance Committee and suspended within 14 days if the service hours are completed and approved.
After the fourteen (14) day mark, the fine cannot be appealed.
The Eminent Warden should provide the Chapter Advisor with evidence that the member service hours are complete by the 15th of December and the 15th of May.
Should the Chapter fail to comply with the service hours or attempt “wink-wink” to manipulate compliance, the Chapter Advisor should apply the “Vote of No Confidence Rule” (see Article III: General, Section 5).
